We winded down our last day by taking a boat tour around Stockholm! There was a Swedish flag waving behind the boat and we were able to get the best seats in the very back.
Gothenburg was a city full of museums and galleries, but with only a few days to explore the place we had to be picky about where we went and how much time we allotted to each location. Besides the Goteborgs Konstmuseum, we also went to the Naturhistorika Riksmuseet (Swedish Natural History Museum). Within its walls were taxidermized animals, reptiles, and bugs of all kinds, along with detailed statements about each ones scientific name, region, diet, and other interesting tidbits. Not to mention the dinosaur bones, complete whale skeleton, and outdoor hedge maze. Next was the Rodasten Konsthall, a smaller museum that doubles as a popular graffiti site. The area surrounding the museum was absolutely covered in graffiti, and the exhibits within its walls were exciting and eye-opening. Miraculous artwork awaited us at the Hamburg Kuntshalle this morning when we ventured in! Both sculpture work and paintings alike were purposefully placed within the halls and along the walls for us to peruse at our leisure. One of the first paintings we walked into was The Entrance of Emperor Charles V in Antwerp by Hans Makart which dwarfed all of us at 520cm in height and 952 centimeters in length; a downright massive piece! It felt amazing to be in the presence of so many historic artworks by famous painters like Edward Munch, Francois Lemoyne, and Caspar David Friedrich. While they didn't have my favorite Friedrich painting on display, Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog , many more of his paintings were present and I thoroughly enjoyed taking the time to appreciate each one of them.
