Trekking around Hamburg

My compatriots and I took some time to walk around Hamburg after our eight hour flight and saw some amazing sights!
The streets were lined with multi-story buildings which were similar to many of the American cities we're famiar with, but the detail in the architecture and abundance of plant growth was a huge contrast to the concrete jungles typically found in larger American cities.

One similarity both American and European cities seem to share is the persistent appearance of graffiti and stickers on both public and privately owned property.

Also, we found a stand selling locally grown strawberries! It was only five euro for a box, so we bought one collectively and shared the bounty.

Our next stop took us to the Hauptbahnhof Nord Train Station which I was psyched to see!
I don't think the photos and videos really do it justice though, we got there right before rush hour and had some difficulty staying together as a group because of how crowded it got.

Our final stop for the night?
The Saint Marian-Dom Cathedral.
While the exterior is pretty standard for a late 1800's Roman Catholic Church, the interior is breathtaking.
Stained glass windows adorn the sides which allow light to softly filter in from the outside, and even a crypt lies beneath the church.
Intricate paintings of black and gold line the apse along with even more stained glass representations of various biblical scenes.

All in all, this was an exceptional first day exploring Hamburg, and I can only hope tomorrow is just as promising, if not more so!

Looking forward to the future,

Eli Goodwin
